Types of Bariatric Surgeries
Besides Gastric Banding Surgery (Lap-Band Surgery), there are numerous weight-loss surgeries that have been proven. Over the years, they have been expunge from use because of high complications, low expected weight-loss, etc. Today, there are three main surgeries and one up-and-coming. Lap-Band Surgery, Gastric Bypass Surgery, Gastric Sleeve Surgery and Sleeve Plication.
Gastric Bypass Surgery, is a popular procedure that uses two techniques to achieve weight-loss. It alters a person's intestinal track and reduces the stomach capacity. Together, it's a powerful combination that is ideal for people with high BMIs.
Gastric Sleeve Surgery is another permanent weight-loss surgery, like Gastric Bypass, but it uses one technique to reduce the weight. By cutting the stomach into a sleeve shape, and thereby reducing its size to nearly 15% of what it was before, gastric sleeve surgery offers patients a permanent way to lose weight.
Gastric Sleeve Plication, is a new procedure that lacks any long term analysis. It's works by reducing the stomach capity to nearly 15%, similar to gastric sleeve surgery, but it's reversible. Because it sutures the stomach into itself, it can still maintain its objective, while reducing weight.
